The Courtyard

The Courtyard Hotel was the venue for our painting out in the open for a while. The painting of Deveils Peak was painted at the same location. I need more practice with buildings! We are painting in the Company Gardens at the moment and I am getting lots of practice in. Strange how the window is not centred in this building, but that is the way it is.

I think your building is pretty good. Love the Old Dutch architecture. Nice painting.

Hi Jean Thank you. The architecture is actually quite difficult to get right. It is often too wide or too narrow! Lots of practice needed!

Hi Kath. Thank you. We are so lucky in that we have just so much to paint! More than in any one lifetime!

Well done, Carol! You have captured the building and mountain behind well.

Really like this one, the bright white building and the umbrella out in front. The shape of the building is so interesting too.

Thanks Dianne. I am sure you know the venue well! We are so lucky to live where we live!

Slangkop Lighthouse, Kommetjie

SOLD Slangkop lighthouse is the tallest iron tower on the South African Coast and sits at the one end of Kommetjie. It measures 100 feet from base to the balcony and has been operational since 1919. Every lighthouse has a different frequency of flashes and this one emits four flashes every 30 seconds as it turns and can be seen for 33 sea miles. Here is an oil painting of the lighthouse from a photograph Bryan took. I would like to do a watercolour of it sometime soon.
