Colours!

This was another art class where Margie dumped this huge selection of shopping goodies together and we had to paint it! Enjoy colour! Play with colour! I am not a colorful person and found this project very difficult! I sort of cheated and started with an almost black background which helped a bit. I don't like the result and find it slightly disturbing. Not a comfortable painting,

Gosh Carol, its a lovely painting! It looks very contemporary and the colours really work.
You say that you are not a "colour" person, I also thought that about myself - I have worked on it, I believe it can be studied, practised and experimented with, it is not just something one is born with, it is a technical skill that can be acquired. What really helped me was to work with a very limited palette, one red, yellow, blue and white and get mixing!
Anyway, your painting is not at all disturbing!

Thanks Di Colour and I are still working at it. I can see that it will be a long ride. Yes, I do work with a limited pallet thanks to Margie and I have learned a lot already but can see that there is just so much further to go, but then thats "art" isn't it?

Slangkop Lighthouse, Kommetjie

SOLD Slangkop lighthouse is the tallest iron tower on the South African Coast and sits at the one end of Kommetjie. It measures 100 feet from base to the balcony and has been operational since 1919. Every lighthouse has a different frequency of flashes and this one emits four flashes every 30 seconds as it turns and can be seen for 33 sea miles. Here is an oil painting of the lighthouse from a photograph Bryan took. I would like to do a watercolour of it sometime soon.
